Trichur, the cultural capital of the State is also known as Thrissur. The district is often referred to as the cultural capital owing to its rich cultural history and heritage. An idyllic example that illustrates further on this point is the Vadakkumnathan Temple that is one of the oldest temples in Kerala and displays the exemplary skill of the architects. Secondary to this temple in order of popularity is Guruvayoor, located only twenty nine kilometres to the west of Thrissur and is home to the Shree Krishna Temple. The temple has a number of historic mysteries related to itself that you must strive to find out from the locals. Various other temples that surround the temple are Thriprayar, Kodungaloor and Irinjalakkuda. Apart from the various temples and religious heritage, this district’s museum and archaeological museum attracts many tourists. The State Museum

The State Museum the first site that is worth mentioning is the State Museum that is a major tourist attraction due to its archaeological prominence in the state and in the country. Some of the items in the museum include models of temples, stone sculptures, antiquated coins, and reproduced models of other murals at churches of Kerala. Please note that the museum is open for the tourists from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. IST and remains closed on Mondays

Kerala Kalamandalam

This school is located at Cheruthuruthy, only thirty two kilometres to the north east of Thrissur. This school was instituted by a late poet for the purpose of preserving and promoting the culture of the State. A one of its kind, this institute is run by tremendously talented set of teachers. Various art forms of the State along with a few literature courses are taught to the students here who undergo laborious training under the supervision of the experts. It is a famous attraction for both Indian and foreign students.
